Don Buckner of Rotary District 7710 Responds to the Haiti Disaster

Don Buckner of Rotary District 7710 responds to the Haiti disaster.

Since the devastating earthquake in Haiti on January 12, 2010, District 7710 Disaster Relief Chair Don Buckner has been in continual contact with his Rotary counterparts in Nassau and Haiti to coordinate relief efforts with Rotarians on the ground in Haiti and to identify and prioritize the most urgent needs for supplies.

Over the past few weeks, approximately 35 single engine planes have left the Johnston County Airport in Smithfield, NC with supplies headed for Haiti. Rotary District 7710 has collected $26,000, which has been used to provide fuel for the transport of the supplies and for buying antibiotics. Approximately 50,000 pounds of medical supplies and equipment has been transported to Haiti with another 10,000+ pounds sent via truck to Ft. Lauderdale to be loaded onto larger planes for delivery to Haiti.
